Valencia approves multi‑million urban renewal projects in Virgen de los Desamparados and Velluters

The Valencia city council is set to approve a €6.05 million redevelopment of the Virgen de los Desamparados neighbourhood. The plan will widen sidewalks, add tactile paving, pedestrianise streets, modernise lighting with 178 LED fixtures, plant over a hundred new trees, install sustainable drainage and upgrade fire‑hydrants, creating a more accessible, green and safer urban environment. Works are expected to last about twelve months once a contract is awarded.

In a separate decision, the council approved the re‑parceling of an 887‑square‑metre site in the Velluters area of the historic Ciutat Vella district. The initiative will turn the long‑idle land into public space and allow the construction of roughly eleven new housing units, adding 276 square metres of buildable floor area alongside new streets and open areas. Both measures are part of Valencia’s broader strategy to activate dormant land and improve urban quality for residents.
