Valencia authorities investigate far-right citizen patrols

Authorities in Valencia are investigating the activities of a group known as ‘Ángeles de la Noche’, a self-styled citizen patrol linked to far-right groups. The group recently conducted a patrol along the Malva-rosa beach, claiming their presence was intended to ‘dissuade possible conflict situations’ and ‘reinforce the feeling of security’ among residents, specifically targeting areas with groups of North African youth.

The National Police have identified three members of the group and have been monitoring them for some time. While no direct security interventions have been reported yet, prosecutors are examining the possibility of opening an investigation for potential hate crimes. Authorities noted that public security is the exclusive responsibility of state forces, and the group’s actions could constitute crimes such as usurpation of functions or illegal detention.

In a separate incident in Guatemala, the National Civil Police (PNC) captured a couple suspected of belonging to the ‘Barrio 18’ gang following an armed attack on a bus driver in Guatemala City. The driver, a man approximately 30 years old, died at the scene from gunshot wounds. Two women were also injured during the attack. The suspects were apprehended while attempting to flee in a vehicle, and an illegal revolver was seized during the operation.
