Valencia begins enforcing new cleaning ordinance with fines up to 3,000 euros

The Valencia City Council has begun the enforcement phase of its new urban cleaning and waste collection ordinance. Following an information period held in early October, local police are now authorized to issue fines for various hygiene violations.

Under the new regulations, penalties can reach up to 3,000 euros for several offenses. These include abandoning scattered waste or bulky items in public spaces, spitting or urinating in public, and performing graffiti on protected heritage sites.

Smaller infractions, such as discarding cigarette butts, gum, or paper instead of using designated bins, can result in fines of up to 1,500 euros. The ordinance also addresses pet ownership, mandating that owners clean up animal excrement. For bulky items and furniture, the city reminds residents that a free collection service is available via municipal phone lines, websites, or apps to avoid illegal dumping.
