Valencia flood victims honored at charity concert as protests demand end to Mazón immunity

The State Support Network “No Olvidar la Dana” staged its first large charity event on Sunday in Silla, Valencia, to honor the 230 people who died in the October 2024 floods and to raise funds for the three main victims' associations. The concert featured choreographer Nacho Duato, artists La María, Alejandro & María Laura, Jonathan Pocoví, Rei Ortolá and was promoted by the volunteer centre La Cantina. Ministers Diana Morant and reconstruction commissioner Zulima Pérez, local mayors and union representatives attended.

On the same weekend, a monthly march took place in Paiporta, the flood’s epicentre, demanding that former Generalitat president Carlos Mazón be stripped of his parliamentary immunity and face ordinary court proceedings. Organized by more than 200 civic, social and trade‑union groups together with victims’ associations, the protest featured a reading of manifestos and a performance of the song “El río no tiene culpa”. Rosa Álvarez, president of the Association of Fatal Victims of the 29‑O flood, said the protest seeks accountability for what she called a “catastrophic management” that led to the deaths.
