Valencia brothel owner placed in pre‑trial detention for sexual assault of migrant woman

A 33‑year‑old man who ran a brothel in Valencia has been ordered into provisional prison after being accused of exploiting and sexually assaulting a migrant woman who worked in his establishment. Police say the victim fled her home country seeking a better life, but was trapped in the brothel and subjected to repeated sexual demands, threats and a violent attack in which the suspect attempted to suffocate her and destroyed her mobile devices. The judge cited the victim’s vulnerability and the risk of repeat offences when imposing the detention, while the National Police highlighted the seriousness of the crimes, which also include charges of prostitution, serious threats, damage and bodily injury.

The case underscores concerns about the exploitation of vulnerable migrants in Spain’s sex‑work sector and the authorities’ commitment to pursue such offences through the criminal justice system.
