Valencia CF and José Luis Gayà face contract deadlock
Contract negotiations between Valencia CF and captain José Luis Gayà have reached a deadlock due to significant economic disparities. The 31-year-old left-back is currently under contract until June 30, 2027.
Gayà has expressed a desire to remain at the club and is reportedly willing to accept a salary reduction of up to 70%. However, the club’s current proposal to extend his contract until 2029 involves a much steeper reduction, estimated at approximately 80% of his current gross annual salary of over 6 million euros.
If an agreement is not reached, Gayà will be eligible to sign a pre-contract with other clubs starting January 1, allowing him to leave for free in the summer. A successful renewal at a lower wage would allow Valencia CF to free up approximately 3 million euros in squad costs for the current season, aiding their compliance with LaLiga’s economic controls.
