Javier Aguirre appointed as new Valencia CF head coach
Valencia CF has officially appointed Mexican manager Javier Aguirre as the new head coach of the first team. Aguirre, 67, signs a contract through the end of the 2026-27 season, with an option for the club to extend the agreement for an additional year.
Aguirre takes over following the dismissal of Carlos Corberán in mid-September and a brief interim period led by Óscar Sánchez. The appointment comes as Valencia struggles in La Liga, currently sitting in 19th place with only four points from seven matches. The club is undergoing a sporting restructuring, which includes the appointment of Braulio Vázquez as the new sporting director.
Aguirre returns to Spanish football after managing the Mexican national team during the 2026 World Cup. He brings extensive La Liga experience, having previously coached clubs including Osasuna, Atlético de Madrid, Real Zaragoza, Espanyol, Leganés, and Mallorca. He is scheduled to be officially presented at Mestalla on Monday, September 28.
