Valencia CF sues Netflix over Vinícius Júnior documentary
Valencia CF has filed a lawsuit against Netflix and the production company Conspiração Filmes regarding the documentary ‘Baila, Vini’, which focuses on Real Madrid player Vinícius Júnior. The legal dispute centers on the subtitling of a specific incident during a match between Valencia and Real Madrid on May 21, 2023, at the Mestalla Stadium.
The club alleges that the documentary inaccurately subtitled crowd chants. While the club maintains that spectators were shouting terms such as ‘stupid’ or ‘fool’, the subtitles used in the production reportedly translated the audio as ‘monkey’. Valencia CF argues that this discrepancy constitutes a serious alteration of facts that damages the institutional honor and image of the club and its supporters.
A court in Valencia has scheduled the trial for February 17, 2027. The club is seeking both financial compensation for damages and a formal rectification of the contested footage within the documentary.
