Valencia court sentences woman to prison for drug trafficking attempt

A woman has been sentenced to six and a half years in prison and fined 100,000 euros for attempting to transport drugs from Valencia to Bucharest, Romania. The High Court of Justice of the Valencian Community ratified the sentence for crimes against public health involving substances that cause serious damage to health.

The incident occurred when a checked suitcase became stuck on a luggage belt at the airport, prompting a Guardia Civil inspection. Authorities discovered 2,012 grams of cocaine and 4,992 grams of cannabis hidden inside. The scale of the drugs led to an aggravating factor of “notorious importance,” indicating large-scale trafficking rather than personal consumption.

The defendant was not arrested at the time of the discovery because she had already cleared the check-in area. However, she was arrested eight days later upon returning to Spain to claim the abandoned luggage.
