Valencia cultural history: Teodor Llorente and medieval troubadours
Historical and cultural developments in Valencia are highlighted through the legacies of Teodor Llorente and the medieval troubadour tradition. Teodor Llorente, a key figure in the Valencian Renaixença, was crowned official poet of Valencia in 1910 during the Regional Exhibition. Originally trained in law and philosophy, Llorente transitioned from writing in Spanish to his native language, influenced by the poet Marià Aguiló. He also played a significant role in media, acquiring the newspaper La Opinión, which later became Las Provincias.
In a separate cultural event, medievalist Miriam Cabré, a professor at the University of Girona, will present a lecture at the Monestir de Santa Maria de la Valldigna. Her presentation, titled ‘“Car València val”: els trobadors medievals i les terres valencianes’, explores the deep connections between Occitan troubadour culture and the political and cultural history of the Valencian lands during the 13th, 14th, and 15th centuries. Cabré is a leading specialist in the work of Cerverí de Girona and the poetic traditions of the Crown of Aragon.
