Valencia distributes heat‑protection kits to homeless amid extreme temperatures
The Valencian regional government activated a red heat alert for the second wave of summer heat, with temperatures reaching 44 °C in inland and coastal areas. To protect people experiencing homelessness, the Social Services, Family and Childhood ministry, led by Councillor Elena Albalat and Councillor Marta Torrado, handed out basic protection kits in Valencia and coordinated distribution in nearby municipalities such as Gandía, Torrent, Elche, Castellón and Alicante.
Each kit contains a thermos water bottle, mosquito‑repellent products, a sun‑protective hat, sunscreen and cooling wipes. For the upcoming solar eclipse on 12 August, kits in Castellón and Valencia also include protective glasses and informational leaflets. The initiative follows the regional protocol for meteorological emergencies affecting people without shelter and is funded with €4.25 million to improve social integration and health safety during extreme heat conditions.
