Valencia driving license backlog prompts calls for DGT leadership change

José Forés, the Transport spokesperson for the Popular Group in Les Corts, has called for the dismissal of the Director General of the DGT, citing a chronic collapse in driving examinations. He reported that 48,000 people in the Valencian Community are currently on waiting lists to obtain their driver's licenses.

Forés noted that the delay has forced 53 driving schools in the region to close and has hindered access to the labor market for many. He highlighted a significant financial discrepancy, stating that while the DGT maintained a surplus of over 10 million euros in 2025, the gross expenditure for the entire staff of examiners was only approximately 2.67 million euros.

The deputy criticized the administration for failing to hire the necessary 20 examiners despite the surplus, suggesting that the current situation allows the Treasury to increase revenue through fees that students must repeatedly pay as their permits expire before they can be tested.
