Valencia Falleras Mayores selection process evolves

The selection process for the Falleras Mayores de València has undergone significant evolution over the last four decades. Since a shift toward democratization in 1980, the process has moved from direct appointments to a structured selection system involving sector pre-selections, interviews, and evaluations.

The current procedure involves multiple phases where commissions present candidates, leading to the selection of 13 women and 13 children to form the Cortes de Honor. From this group, the Fallera Mayor and Fallera Mayor Infantil are chosen.

In a recent development, Cristina Rasero was appointed to the position following the resignation of Lucía Sorolla. Rasero, a primary and English teacher with deep family roots in the Fallas tradition, stepped into the role after previously serving as Fallera Mayor Infantil in 2011.
