Valencia July Fair bullfighting opening awards two ear trophies

On July 16, 2026 the Feria de Julio in Valencia opened with a mixed bullfight featuring toros from José Enrique Fraile of Valdefresno and novillos from Montalvo. Matadors Román and Nek Romero each earned an ear trophy; Román secured the first ear after a strong performance on a bull that began to flee, while Nek Romero claimed the second ear in the fifth turn. Novillera Olga Casado fought a weaker sixth novillo, delivering a respectable but unremarkable showing.

The event included a minute of silence to honor victims of the recent Venezuelan earthquake and the Almería fires. The afternoon’s proceedings were attended by local fans and highlighted the continued popularity of traditional bullfighting in the region.
