Valencia government advances flood resilience and infrastructure recovery
The Generalitat Valenciana is advancing major infrastructure and recovery projects following the extreme weather events (DANA) of October 2024. The Pinedo wastewater treatment plant is nearing the final phase of a comprehensive renovation, with works 90% complete. This project involves a 40 million euro investment to improve water treatment capacity and enhance resilience against extreme weather through new high-capacity emergency generators and automated control systems.
Additionally, under the ‘Plan Endavant’, the regional government is investing 59 million euros in the cleaning and adequacy of several ravines, including Poyo, Turia, Magro, and Picasent. This initiative involves 110 professionals and 40 mechanical units to manage 160 kilometers of terrain, focusing on vegetation removal and renaturalization to increase safety against floods and fires. Regional President Juanfran Pérez Llorca noted that these actions are being taken to address the perceived slow response from the central Spanish government regarding promised recovery funds.
