Valencia hospitals implement Rezum water vapor therapy for prostate treatment

The València Arnau de Vilanova – Llíria Health Department has implemented Rezum therapy, a pioneering minimally invasive technique for treating urinary symptoms caused by benign prostatic hyperplasia. This procedure uses controlled water vapor administered through the urethra to deliver thermal energy, which reduces prostate tissue volume and widens the urethral space to improve urine flow.

Key advantages of the Rezum technique include the absence of a need for general anesthesia or hospital stays, as the procedure is outpatient and can be performed with local anesthesia or mild sedation. Patients typically experience rapid recovery and can return home the same day. Additionally, the therapy is noted for preserving sexual function and ejaculation, which are often risks in conventional surgical interventions. Improvements in symptoms generally begin to appear approximately one month after the procedure.
