Valencia joins European Homegrown Energy campaign

Valencia has joined the ‘Homegrown Energy’ campaign, a European initiative involving ten cities and territories to promote affordable, renewable, and participatory local energy solutions. Driven by Energy Cities and the European Covenant of Mayors, the campaign aims to address rising energy costs and accelerate the transition to renewable models.

The Valencia City Council is supporting the development of local energy communities by providing public resources, including the use of municipal building rooftops for photovoltaic plant installations. This initiative facilitates collective self-consumption and is managed with technical support from Valencia Sostenible.

The program includes a social dimension designed to assist vulnerable households. The first call for the use of municipal rooftops includes sites such as the Daniel Balaciart municipal warehouses, CEIP Santa Teresa, and CEE Rosa Llàcer, with a combined capacity exceeding 230 kWp. A portion of the generated energy will be allocated to municipal buildings and families identified by social services as being in situations of vulnerability.
