Valencia landmarks highlight architectural and culinary history
Valencia features significant architectural and historical landmarks, including the Mercado Central and the Templo San Francisco.
The Mercado Central de Valencia is considered one of Europe’s largest fresh produce markets. Built between 1914 and 1928, the structure is a masterpiece of Valencian Modernism, designed by architects such as Frances Guàrdia i Vial and Alexandre Soler i March. The building is noted for its domes, columns, metal elements, and stained glass.
The Templo San Francisco, originally established as a convent in 1634, serves as a major historical site in the city. Following various reconstructions and historical shifts, including its use as a Federal College in the 19th century, the site remains a key part of Valencia’s cultural and religious heritage.
