Valencia launches Spain's first tourism crisis committee

The city of Valencia has created the first Comité de Crisis Turística in Spain, a new body designed to protect visitors during emergencies such as extreme weather, health crises or other incidents. The committee will implement the RETUR plan (Plan de Resiliencia Turística frente a Emergencias), which provides multilingual information, emergency accommodation, assistance with repatriation and coordinated public‑private response.

Councilor for Tourism, Innovation and Investments Paula Llobet presented the initiative, saying, “With the creation of this committee, Valencia takes a step forward for all of Spain. Coordination between the administration and our companies is essential, and we want a safety net ready if any eventuality occurs.” The committee brings together the Fundación Visit Valencia, hotel association Hosbec, Aptur CV, travel agency group AEVAV, official guides, the hospitality sector, the Palacio de Congresos, Feria Valencia, the CEV employers’ group, the Chamber of Commerce, the Ciutat de les Arts i les Ciències museum and the Consular Corps, establishing a permanent coordination platform for the tourism sector.

Beyond protecting tourists, the body will also organise the sector’s solidarity response, channeling resources such as beds, food and transport to affected visitors and the local population during crises.
