Valencia Local Police anti-squatting office processes 45 cases in seven months

Valencia's Local Police anti-squatting office has processed only 45 cases in its first seven months of operation. An internal report indicates that the unit, launched in November 2025, functions more as a free legal advisory service than an active eviction unit, as local police lack the authority to handle trespassing or usurpation crimes unless they occur in flagrante delicto.

Out of the 45 registered files, 35 related to illegal occupation, 6 to settlements, 3 to a controversial concept termed “inquiocupación,” and one to precarious occupation. The report also noted 13 telephone inquiries, primarily for preventive information or rent non-payment advice.

The use of the term “inquiocupación”—a neologism used by the PP and Vox parties to describe rental defaults—has drawn criticism from officials such as Ferran Puchades, who argued that the term is not legally recognized and attempts to criminalize civil debtors.
