Valencia Marathon volunteers begin CPR and first aid training
More than 40 volunteers for the Valencia Marathon and Valencia Half Marathon 2026 have begun training in cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) and first aid. The training sessions, organized by health sponsor Vithas, are being held at the Hospital Vithas Valencia Turia.
The program combines theoretical and practical instruction to prepare volunteers to identify cardiorespiratory arrests and act effectively using automated external defibrillators (AED) until professional medical teams arrive. These sessions are part of an ongoing initiative to enhance safety for the thousands of runners and spectators expected at the international sporting events.
Dr. Virginia López, the medical director for the races, emphasized that while the events maintain one of the most extensive medical deployments in the world, it is vital for volunteers and organizational staff to be prepared to provide immediate assistance during the critical first minutes of an emergency.
