Valencia parents arrested for baby abduction and hospital fraud

A couple has been arrested in Valencia for the abduction of their newborn baby. The parents allegedly fled a private hospital after learning that social services intended to revoke their guardianship of the child.

The mother, aged 18, is accused of identity theft, having allegedly obtained another woman’s national ID card under false pretenses to facilitate the birth. The couple is also facing fraud charges for allegedly defrauding Hospital Quirón Valencia of approximately 4,000 euros in obstetric and gynecological expenses by using a false identity and lacking health insurance.

Following the birth, the mother was captured on security footage leaving the facility in a wheelchair, pushed by her partner. The family remained in hiding for 18 days in a residential area before being apprehended by the National Police.
