Valencia prepares to host 200 Sorolla works from New York
The Museu de la Ciutat in Valencia is beginning preparations to host more than 200 works by painter Joaquín Sorolla. The collection is being transferred from the Hispanic Society of America in New York and will be temporarily housed in the municipal space before a planned move to the Palacio de las Comunicaciones.
To prepare for the arrival of the artworks, which is expected in November, the Valencia City Council is investing nearly 300,000 euros to enhance security and infrastructure. This includes approximately 207,178 euros to increase private security presence, particularly at night, and additional funds for upgrading CCTV, intrusion detection, and fire detection systems. Furthermore, 350,000 euros have been allocated for the conservation and maintenance of the building.
The exhibition is projected to open to the public in early 2027.
