Valencia province hit by severe storms with 149 km/h gusts

Severe thunderstorms and intense wind gusts of up to 149 km/h struck the province of Valencia, Spain, causing significant property damage and transport disruptions. The extreme weather, characterized by wet downbursts, followed a period of intense heat in the region.

In Alzira, wind gusts reaching 143 km/h caused a portion of the roof of the Santa Catalina Church to collapse, exposing the interior of the dome. Other areas heavily impacted include Sumacàrcer, which recorded the highest wind speeds at 149 km/h, as well as Corbera, l'Alcúdia, and Cullera.

Damage reported across the region includes fallen trees, destroyed terrace furniture, and collapsed balconies. In Cullera, one man was injured by a flying beach umbrella. The storms also affected infrastructure, with fallen trees blocking railway lines and causing delays to commuter services. Emergency services responded to multiple weather-related calls throughout the La Ribera region.
