Valencia region extends transport fare discounts and records extensive train delays
The Valencian Community council has approved a continuation of temporary public‑transport fare discounts through 31 December 2026. The measures keep free travel for children up to 14, a 50 % discount for youth tickets and up to a 40 % reduction on multi‑trip passes, as well as free tickets for residents of municipalities still affected by the October 2024 flood. The extension aligns with the regional decree and includes additional 20 % discounts on general multi‑journey tickets, while compensating operators for the reduced revenues.
Renfe reported that Cercanías trains in the Valencia metropolitan area accumulated 240 hours of delay in May, bringing the total monthly delay to 14 469 minutes. While 70.6 % of trains arrived on schedule, 18 % were more than five minutes late, with an average delay of 9.4 minutes. The report attributes 94.4 % of disruptions to infrastructure problems, weather and traffic management by other operators, and notes a 0.8 % service cancellation rate (58 of 7 191 trains).
