Valencia residents demand urgent electrical and utility repairs

More than 200 families in the La Laguna sector of Barrio Las Flores I, located in the Miguel Peña parish of Valencia, are demanding urgent intervention from the Valencia Mayor's Office to address severe public service deficiencies.

Residents report a critical lack of electrical infrastructure, including poles and wiring. To obtain electricity, households have had to connect themselves to streetlights on the main avenue using 200 to 300 meters of cable. Community leaders warned that a collapsed pole poses a high risk of short circuits. Although a project was submitted to the National Electric Corporation (Corpoelec) in 2024 and approved after technical measurements, the necessary materials—including transformers, insulators, and poles—have not been delivered.

In addition to electricity issues, the community faces inadequate sewage systems, with approximately half of the residents relying on septic tanks. Other reported problems include unpaved roads that flood during rainy seasons, lack of sidewalks, and irregular access to potable water, which often only arrives in the early morning hours.
