Spain speed cameras record high volumes of traffic violations

Spain has recorded exceptionally high numbers of speeding violations through various traffic enforcement measures in 2025. A speed camera on the A-7 highway near Valencia set a European record by capturing 90,766 infractions in a single year, averaging approximately one fine every six minutes. This specific camera reportedly generated 18.9 million euros in fines for the state. Authorities state the device is placed on a dangerous section where the speed limit drops from 120 km/h to 100 km/h.

In Navarra, a radar on the A-15 near Lekunberri sanctioned 67,445 drivers in 2025, issuing a fine roughly every eight minutes. This location is a known hazard where the limit decreases from 120 km/h to 80 km/h on a steep descent.

Additionally, a special surveillance campaign in Seville conducted by the Guardia Civil between August 3 and August 9 resulted in 1,704 drivers being sanctioned for speeding. During this week-long period, 31,710 vehicles were controlled across 92 checkpoints, with the majority of enforcement occurring on conventional roads.
