Valencia to pay 343,000 euros for COVID-19 losses

The Valencia City Council must pay 343,091.44 euros to Esportinat, the company managing the Patraix municipal sports complex, to compensate for losses incurred during the COVID-19 pandemic.

The ruling by the Fifth Section of the Administrative Litigation Chamber of the High Court of Justice of the Valencian Community partially upheld an appeal by the city council, reducing the initial compensation amount from 390,237.44 euros. The reduction of 47,146 euros was due to unjustified amortization costs.

The dispute arose from revenue losses between July 2020 and December 2021 caused by capacity restrictions and temporary closures. The company continued services under a forced extension of a concession that had expired in 2018. Municipal sources confirmed the city will not appeal the decision to the Supreme Court, making the payment final.
