Valencian authorities invest €7.9 million in heritage preservation and road upgrades
The Generalitat de la Comunitat Valenciana has allocated €1,314,943 over the 2024‑2026 period to restore and conserve cultural heritage in the Plana Alta region. Funding targets historic buildings and spaces in municipalities such as Cabanes, Sierra Engarcerán, Vilafamés, Vilanova d’Alcolea, Les Coves de Vinromà and Torreblanca. A notable project is the €150,000 consolidation and accessibility upgrade of the 13th‑century Sant Francesc fortress‑church in Torreblanca, aimed at preventing structural decay, improving waterproofing and adding a ramp so the site can serve as a cultural and tourist venue. Officials say the investment also helps combat depopulation in small towns by boosting tourism and local identity.
Meanwhile, the Valls city council has announced a record €6,569,000 investment in public‑works projects across the urban area. The plan covers resurfacing more than 21,500 m² of roads on nine streets, modernising sidewalks, and renewing a 1.5‑km water‑network ring in the south of the city for €653,000. Additional spending includes €290,000 for expanding LED street‑lighting, €1.3 million for green‑space and playground upgrades, and €2.4 million for a major redevelopment of the historic Sant Francesc district, which will create a new pedestrian promenade and improve access to the former medieval wall. The comprehensive programme seeks to upgrade infrastructure, enhance sustainability and stimulate economic activity in Valls and the wider Valencian region.
