Valencian authorities order closure of Dutch minors' center in Aspe
The Generalitat Valenciana has ordered the immediate closure of Huize Soria, a facility located in Aspe, Alicante, that provides services for Dutch minors with behavioral issues or addictions. The regional government ordered the shutdown because the center lacks the mandatory legal authorization to operate, violating the Inclusive Social Services Law.
The order follows investigations by Dutch public television, which reported allegations of a “repressive culture” involving coercion, restricted food, excessive labor, and prohibitions on contacting family and friends. In response to these reports, the Valencian regional government’s Department of Social Services, Family, and Childhood has initiated inspections to verify the services provided.
Additionally, the Síndic de Greuges (the Valencian Ombudsman) has opened an official inquiry to determine if the fundamental rights of the children, including protection against physical and psychological violence, have been violated. If the center does not cease activities immediately, the administration may open disciplinary proceedings and pursue further legal measures.
