Valencian bull running clubs challenge new regional regulations
The Federation of Bous al Carrer Clubs of the Valencian Community has filed an administrative appeal with the High Court of Justice of the Valencian Community against a new regional regulation for popular bull festivities. Approved by the Consell in June, the decree is scheduled to take effect on January 1, 2027.
The new regulations introduce significant changes regarding safety measures and animal welfare. Key requirements include periodic technical inspections of platforms and stands, increased height for vertical barrier bars, more on-site medical resources, and improved conditions for bull pens and corrals.
Club representatives argue that these requirements impose an unsustainable economic burden. Specifically, they estimate that technical inspections for platforms could cost approximately six million euros every three years. Furthermore, the Federation expressed concern that requiring municipal authorization for these events could allow local governments to block or restrict festivities, arguing that such authority should reside with the regional government rather than individual municipalities.
