Valencian Community anti-corruption reforms improve institutional trust
An academic study published in the International Public Management Journal (IPMJ) suggests that citizen distrust in institutions can be mitigated through effective political reform. Researchers Manuel Villoria, Jesús Palomo, and Luis Ramos from Universidad Rey Juan Carlos I de Madrid analyzed the evolution of public perception regarding corruption and institutional trust.
The study highlights the Valencian Community as a “nearly unique case,” noting that the anti-corruption prevention policies implemented in 2015 represent a radical and integral policy shift linked to a critical juncture. By comparing data from 2009 and 2022, the researchers examined how these reforms influenced trust in the regional government (Consell) relative to other autonomous executives in Spain.
