Valencian Community doctors to end Saturday shifts

Doctors in the Valencian Community who do not work in shifts will no longer be required to work Saturdays as part of their ordinary working hours. The new schedule will be fixed from Monday to Friday, between 8:00 and 15:00.

This measure was presented to the sectoral table by the Conselleria de Sanidad as part of an agreement reached between the Generalitat and the medical union CESM-CV following a strike in July. The change will be incorporated into Decree 137/2003, which regulates the working hours of healthcare personnel under the Generalitat.

Under the new agreement, Saturday shifts will be treated as 24-hour shifts, including the corresponding rest period and paid leave for the following Monday. The agreement also addresses the incorporation of additional paid rest when there is an excess of shifts in hospital care and a commitment to resize services and adjust medical staff to meet the actual needs of each area.
