Valencian Community honors terrorism victims in Mutxamel

The Valencian Community held its first official Day of Victims of Terrorism in Mutxamel, marking the 35th anniversary of the most severe terrorist attack in the region. The ceremony honored 44 people who lost their lives due to terrorist actions linked to the region, including those killed by ETA in the Valencian provinces and Valencians killed by terrorism elsewhere in Spain or the world.

The event took place at the José Bernabéu Alberola multipurpose center, which stands on the site of the former Mutxamel Civil Guard barracks. On September 16, 35 years ago, an ETA car bomb intended for the barracks exploded while being towed by a crane, killing local police officers Víctor Manuel Puertas and José Luis Jiménez, as well as crane driver Francisco Cebrián Cabezas, and injuring 27 others.

During the tribute, the President of the Generalitat, Juanfran Pérez Llorca, emphasized that victims represent ‘dignity, liberty, and coexistence in the face of violence and fear,’ stating that ‘no dignified society can forget those who suffered the consequences’ of such violence. The tribute included victims of various attacks, such as the Hipercor bombing, the 11-M Madrid attacks, and military members killed in the Middle East.
