Argentina metallurgical production falls 6.1% in August

Argentina’s metallurgical sector experienced a 6.1% year-on-year decline in production during August 2026, according to reports from the Association of Metallurgical Industrials of the Argentine Republic (ADIMRA). This downturn follows a 3.9% decrease compared to July, bringing the cumulative contraction for the first eight months of the year to 5.6%.

Industrial capacity utilization has dropped to 39.6%, a level described by ADIMRA as historically low and comparable to the recessionary period following the 2020 pandemic. The decline has impacted all industrial branches, with capital goods seeing the sharpest drop at 11.1% and foundry at 7.9%. Other affected sectors include automotive parts, trailers, and electrical equipment.

ADIMRA President Elio Del Re noted that the sector shows no significant signs of recovery, as six out of ten production units remain idle due to weak demand and a lack of orders. The contraction has also affected employment, which saw a 2.5% year-on-year decrease.
