Valencian Community rolls out student electronics‑repair project and flood‑risk training after October DANA

In response to the severe DANA that struck the province of Valencia on 29 October 2024, two community initiatives have been launched.

At the IES Sivera Font de Canals, a group of vocational‑training students in the Micro‑computer and Network Systems cycle recovered and refurbished electronic devices damaged by the storm. The project, called “Volver a Encender,” was selected by the Fundación Cotec’s “Aprenem de la Pluja” programme and aims to narrow the digital divide in the affected towns while promoting a circular‑economy approach. The students will present their results at the IX Trobada de Aprenentatge‑Servei in Aldaia.

Separately, the University of Valencia together with the Mancomunidad de l’Horta Sud is offering free, open‑registration flood‑risk workshops for residents of the 13 municipalities most exposed to flooding. Five pilot sessions, each tailored to a specific locality, will run from 13 to 21 May in municipal venues, teaching participants how to understand their river basin, assess local flood risk and locate reliable information. The programme, led by researcher Ana Camarasa, is part of a European‑funded project to improve civic awareness of natural‑hazard exposure.
