Global education updates: enrollment shifts and infrastructure growth

As the 2026-2027 academic year begins, various regions are implementing diverse educational policies and facing demographic shifts.

In Spain, several regions report significant changes. Castilla y León is starting the year with a record 37,074 teachers and over 405,000 students, emphasizing vocational training and free early childhood education. Conversely, Cantabria is facing a decline in enrollment due to low birth rates, expecting 3,000 fewer students. In Andalusia, the Inturjoven hostel network is expanding its residency program to 272 places for students and teachers, while the government is also subsidizing early childhood education for thousands of children in Huelva. In Valencia, teachers will receive a phased salary increase, starting with 75 euros this September.

In the Dominican Republic, the Ministry of Education has reported significant progress in school infrastructure, having delivered 1,425 new classrooms and maintaining over 1,700 facilities.

In Mexico, new classrooms have been added to the Valle de la Palma secondary school to meet growing local demand, and school activities in Múzquiz and Ocampo are proceeding normally with the distribution of free textbooks.

In Ecuador, DiDi has noted a significant increase in ride requests during the back-to-school period in Quito, particularly during early morning hours.
