Valencian energy planning targets 3.8 GW for ceramic and hydrogen sectors
The Valencian electrical planning proposal, currently being processed by the Ministry for the Ecological Transition and the Demographic Challenge, includes a reservation of 3.8 GW of additional demand through 2030. This capacity is intended to support the ceramic industry in Castellón, green hydrogen production, and new housing developments.
The plan focuses on grid reinforcement to enable industrial electrification, proposing the construction of seven new substations, 754 kilometers of new lines, and the upgrading of 718 kilometers of existing lines. This infrastructure aims to address the connectivity needs required for industrial growth and renewable energy integration.
In a related development, Pamesa, Europe’s leading ceramic producer, has announced a 74 million euro investment to develop a Net Zero industrial energy platform. Pamesa’s Director General, Jose Manuel Llaneza, emphasized the importance of high-value-added products and noted that the industry must offset international competitiveness challenges through productivity, design, and innovation.
