Valencian government cancels Zarra industrial waste project

The Valencian government has officially halted the project for a non-contaminating industrial waste treatment plant in Zarra, located in the Vall d’Aiora-Cofrents region. The decision to archive the file follows significant opposition from local residents and municipal governments.

Vicente Martínez Mus, the Minister of Environment, announced the decision, noting that the project had faced intense scrutiny and legal challenges since its inception in 2022. Following the announcement, the local platform against the waste site has cancelled planned protests in Valencia, stating that the threat to their territory has ended after six months of struggle and technical allegations.
