Valencian Government Heads EUROPARC‑España as Albufera Restoration Plan Unveiled
The Generalitat Valenciana has taken the presidency of EUROPARC‑España with Carles Borràs Pla, sub‑director general of Natural Spaces and Wildlife, appointed as the new president. The change was announced at the General Assembly in Madrid, where the council of the organization was also renewed to include representatives from several regional administrations.
In a separate interview, the newly appointed director of the Albufera Natural Park, a long‑time civil servant of the Valencian Ministry of Environment, outlined an integrated recovery roadmap for the wetland. The plan prioritises basin‑wide water‑quality improvements, restoration of macrophyte meadows, and coordinated land‑use management among agriculture, urban and conservation interests to revive the ecosystem’s natural functions.
Both developments signal a strengthening of regional involvement in Spain’s protected‑area network and a coordinated effort to address environmental challenges in the Valencia region.
