Valencian government promotes agricultural innovation and economic growth
The Generalitat Valenciana is prioritizing technological and scientific innovation to enhance profitability and sustainability within the agricultural and livestock sectors. During the Innovative Agricultural Regions Forum in Málaga, officials emphasized three strategic pillars: the modernization of farms, the integration of young people into the sector, and the implementation of new technologies.
Economic data presented by the Conselleria de Agricultura, Agua, Ganadería y Pesca and the Valencian Institute of Economic Research (Ivie) highlights the sector's significant regional impact. The agri-food industry generates a gross value added of 11,345 million euros, representing approximately 10% of the regional GDP and 12.2% of regional employment.
Export figures show that Valencian agri-food sales abroad reached 9,217.8 million euros in 2024, accounting for nearly 25% of the region's total exports. Fruit exports constitute 41.9% of this total, with the region concentrating 52.7% of all Spanish fruit exports. Key challenges identified for the sector include business fragmentation, generational replacement, and the adoption of digital tools, automation, and artificial intelligence.
