Valencian Government pushes for equitable regional financing reform
Valencian Economy, Treasury and Public Administration minister José Antonio Rovira called for a new autonomous‑community financing model to end the historic under‑financing of the region. He urged that negotiations involve all common‑regime autonomies rather than bilateral talks with Catalonia, and demanded a transparent, multilateral process.
Rovira also requested a temporary leveling fund that would give the Valencian Community the same per‑capita allocation as other regions until a revised system is adopted. He criticized the Ministry of Finance for delivering fragmented and delayed data, and asked for the postponement of the upcoming Council of Fiscal Policy and Finance (CPFF) meeting so the Generalitat can fully assess the proposal. In addition, he suggested reallocating existing funds such as the IVA SMEs fund and the Climate Fund to strengthen inter‑regional leveling.
The minister highlighted a 10 % population increase in the past three years, stressing the growing pressure on health, education and social services, and linked the region’s debt burden to years of under‑financing.
