Valencian Government reinforces ITV network to clear inspection backlog
The Valencian Government has announced an urgent reinforcement of the public vehicle inspection (ITV) network to address a backlog of 98,000 pending inspections. The plan includes hiring 73 new employees, primarily technical inspectors, who will be integrated progressively starting in September, with full operations expected by the end of 2026.
To alleviate delays, which have reached up to two months in Alicante, three provisional inspection stations will be established in Torrent, Onda, and Segorbe. These temporary facilities are estimated to handle approximately 52,000 inspections per year. Additionally, the government is implementing digital improvements, such as online appointment processing and a pilot program for automated access in Gandia.
The public network is managed by Sitval. The Minister of Innovation, Industry, Commerce, and Tourism, Marián Cano, attributed the current congestion to the previous administration's handling of the service reversion.
