Valencian Government Rejects New Funding Model, Missing Potential €3.7 bn Boost

A new financing model proposed by Spain's Ministry of Finance would increase the Valencian Community's per‑capita funding index from 92.8 to near the national average, moving the region from the 14th to the 8th best‑financed autonomous community and adding €3.669 billion in revenue. The analysis, presented by Ángel de la Fuente of the Fundación de Estudios de Economía Aplicada, shows only Murcia receiving less adjusted income per inhabitant. Currently each Valencian receives €946 less than the top‑financed Cantabria and €263 less than the overall average.

The Consell, led by President Juanfran Pérez Llorca, has refused to negotiate with the Ministry, despite backing from entities such as IVIE, social agents and the AVE business lobby. PSPV spokesperson José Díaz warned that rejecting the proposal would constitute a “high‑treason political crime.” The standoff underscores widening fiscal disparities among Spain's autonomous regions.
