Valencian government reports on marine protection and fire management

The Valencian regional government has presented reports regarding environmental management and emergency response within the Comunitat Valenciana.

Vicente Martínez Mus, the Minister of Environment, Infrastructure, Territory, and Recovery, presented a balance of marine protection activities at the Club Náutico de Jávea. He highlighted the role of the Marine Surveillance Service and the Coastguard team in protecting marine ecosystems, noting that increased surveillance has successfully reduced the impact of vessels on posidonia seagrass meadows. The service operates from six bases across the region, including Dénia, Moraira, and Torrevieja.

Separately, the Minister of Emergencies, Juan Carlos Valderrama, addressed the regional parliament regarding the management of forest fires during the summer. Responding to criticisms from opposition parties regarding resource shortages, Valderrama defended the regional response to 224 fires that burned 9,568 hectares of forest. He specifically detailed the deployment of 1,297 forest firefighters and various aerial and ground units used to combat the most devastating fires, such as the one in La Vall d’Uixó.
