Valencian government unveils 40‑action plan for Albufera as IVAM launches new Albufera exhibition

The Consell de la Generalitat Valenciana presented a "40 actions for l’Albufera" program to mark the lagoon’s 40th anniversary as a natural park. The plan targets biodiversity conservation, aquatic ecosystem improvement and habitat restoration, with €26 million allocated for measures such as cleaning wastewater entry points. Environmental groups warn that the programme does not address the ongoing discharge of organic waste into the lake. Eva Tudela of Acció Ecologista‑AGRO stressed that “the wastewater is the key and must be tackled first” and vice‑president Vicente Martínez Mus expressed concern for the lagoon’s future.

At the same time, the Institut Valencià d’Art Modern (IVAM) opened an exhibition revisiting the 1985 photographic project on the Albufera. Contemporary artists were invited to produce new works that reflect ecological changes, tourist pressure and the October 2024 flood. Curator Sandra Moros and director Blanca de la Torre highlighted how the project now treats the Albufera as a living, inter‑species community rather than a mere landscape, linking cultural heritage with environmental stewardship.
