Valencian judge orders report on mayor‑emergency calls during October flood

Judge Nuria Ruiz Tobarra, overseeing the investigation of the October 29 flash‑flood (dana) in the Valencian Community, has ordered the Generalitat Valenciana to provide a detailed report of telephone calls made by the regional Emergency Department to mayors of municipalities near the most affected watercourses and ravines.

The magistrate seeks a list of calls from the Coordination Center, specifying which local authority was contacted, the time, duration, and whether a response was received. The inquiry focuses on calls made from 17:30 onward, when the Poyo stream overflowed and created the "zone zero" of the disaster. The judge aims to test the claim that emergency officials were unaware of the situation in the Poyo basin.

Several mayors from the People’s Party have testified that they contacted figures present at the emergency coordination meeting, including fire deputy Avelino Mascarell, Diputación president Vicent Mompó, and emergency secretary Emilio Argüeso. The sub‑director of Emergencies, Jorge Suárez, later indicated that calls from mayors were among the factors that led to raising the emergency level to level 2 for the entire province at 19:00.
