Valencian Minister defends wildfire emergency response

Juan Carlos Valderrama, the Valencian Minister for Emergencies and Interior, has defended the regional government's response to recent wildfires during a session in Les Corts Valencianes. Addressing recent incidents in Segorbe, El Saler, and Tuéjar, Valderrama stated that operational decisions were based on professional reports and prioritized the protection of citizens and the environment.

Opposition groups have criticized the administration, labeling the prevention and extinction policies a ‘absolute failure’. They accused the government of over-relying on the Military Emergencies Unit (UME) to compensate for insufficient regional resources, arguing that the UME should be reserved for exceptional circumstances rather than becoming the standard response for major fires.
