Valencian region, Spain, reports 30% decline in farm thefts in 2025

According to data analysed by the Union of Farmers and Livestock Keepers, reported robberies and thefts on agricultural and livestock farms in the Valencian Community fell by roughly 30% in 2025, dropping from 1,333 incidents in 2024 to 938. The province of Valencia recorded the highest number of cases (610), followed by Almería, Alicante and Castellón, each seeing declines of 23‑31%.

Despite the decrease in reported crimes, the proportion of cases solved also fell sharply. In 2025 only 213 of the 938 incidents were resolved, about 22%, down from 327 cases (27%) the year before. The union stressed that only two out of every ten farm thefts were clarified, highlighting a growing sense of impunity among rural producers. It called for more ROCA units of the Guardia Civil and better coordination among police forces to improve investigation capacity and rural surveillance.

A separate report from the same organization noted a 19.9% drop in farm thefts across Spain for 2025 compared with 2024, but also a roughly 21% decline in the clearance rate. The union warned that limited police staffing—estimated at 0.7% of the total force covering 85% of rural territory—remains insufficient to protect agricultural assets.
