Valencian teachers and unions face fines following educational strikes
Teachers and unions in the Valencian Community are denouncing administrative sanctions following educational strike mobilizations held in May. According to La Coordinadora d’Assemblees Docents del País Valencià (CADPV), 13 to 14 sanctions have been notified, affecting 12 teachers and the STEPV union, with total fines exceeding 8,000 euros.
The CADPV characterizes these measures as “repression” against educators who participated in previously communicated concentrations and information pickets. One teacher in Alicante faces a potential 800-euro fine for a serious infraction, a charge the Consejo Sindical Obrero (CSO) intends to appeal, arguing the individual did not incite illegal actions or block public roads.
Union representatives claim the Valencian government is using these fines to intimidate future mobilizations. They further criticize the administration for a lack of negotiating will and for implementing reforms that they argue increase surveillance and control over classroom debate and expression.
